Vilas County Sheriff
330 Court Street
Eagle River, WI 54521
Sheriff Frank Tomlanovich
The Police School Liaison Officer (PSLO) Program has been an important part of the Vilas County Sheriff's Department since 1995. The PSLO is based out of the Northland Pines High School. Since the program has started, the PSLO position has taken on additional responsibilities with the implementation of the D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) Program and the special enforcement programs of boat patrol and snowmobile patrol.
The PSLO is a patrol officer assigned to special duties that include being a law enforcement resource to the young citizens of our community while being in a school setting. This is accomplished through having an open door policy and working together to connect on a one on one basis with the administrators, teachers, students, and parents. The PSLO position is also a community-oriented policing (COP) initiative that works closely with the schools to resolve problems before they develop.
The PSLO program is a nationally accepted program that involves the placement of a law enforcement officer into an educational environment. The PSLO fulfills the roles of a law enforcement officer, law-related counselor, and a law-related presenter. This is done to ensure the safety of everyone involved with the different schools throughout Vilas County.
The PSLO provides D.A.R.E. instruction to all 5th grade students in the Northland Pines School District.
The goal of the entire D.A.R.E. program is to significantly reduce/eliminate the use of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs and the use of violent behavior by young people. The D.A.R.E. officers of the Vilas County Sheriff's Dept teach D.A.R.E. throughout Vilas County to 5th grade.
During the winter school breaks, the PSLO is in charge of the Vilas County Snowmobile Patrol Program. During the summer months, the PSLO is in charge of the Boat Patrol Program.
