Sheriff Frank Tomlanovich
The Vilas County Sheriff's Department Canine Unit supports the Patrol Division by providing narcotics detection, evidence searches, tracking and criminal apprehension functions. The unit is currently made up of one Belgian Malinios dog, a Patrol/Tracking/Narcotics Detection dog handled by Deputy Ty Peterson, and two Bloodhound dogs, tracking dogs, handled by Deputy Louise Horn
The unit provides services to other departments within the county including building searches, narcotic searches, tracking, and other canine skills. School Districts throughout the county use the canine unit's narcotic skills by requesting locker and vehicle searches on school grounds. The unit has been successful in the location of narcotics during these searches.
In addition to the handling of their canine partners, Deputy Peterson and Horn continue to meet their obligations as officers in the Patrol Division. Both officers are committed to providing and promoting quality canine services to Vilas County. Both canine teams maintain quality training and are certified on a yearly basis.
